Creating a Web crawling search engine.

Enterprise Search can crawl through the Internet indexing all documents or specific documents. This tutorial will show you how to index specific documents, using "Blue Widgets" as the content we would like indexed.

  • The first step is to specify our keywords. This is done by going into the Options and selecting the Keywords tab. In the box we will add: +blue widgets. The plus sign indicates that the phrase "blue widgets" must exist in documents the spider collects. We can optionally set words that must not exist by using the minus sign, such as: -green widgets.

  • Next, click OK to save and exit the Options screen. Back at the main screen select the Database drop-down menu. Next select the Build Starting Point. The Starting Point will query several of the major search engines to build an initial Todo list of Web sites related to Blue Widgets.

  • Click Build to begin building the Starting Point. When it's finished click Close to exit the Starting Point screen.

  • Finally, click Start Indexing from the main screen. The spider will crawl through the entire Web indexing all documents that contain the phrase blue widgets.
